Minneapolis is the largest city in the U.S. state of Minnesota and is best known for its over 10,000 lakes as shown on many of its car number plates. Since I was passing the customs in Chicago, the officer had told me now it's the perfect time to visit Minneapolis because of its nice weather. Indeed I had a great time there with many beautiful memories that still flash to my mind now and then.

 

Besides the nice weather, the clear blue sky and the peaceful lakes, what impressed me most is the friendly people we've met everywhere. People will offer to buy you train tickets when they noticed that you don't have change. Some would just give you all their coins even what you want is just to change with them. Bus drivers will kindly operate the equipment to lift handicapped people and secure their wheels very carefully even they only take for three stops. When you don't have change, the bus drivers may just let you go for a free ride. Some of them are enjoying their work so much that they greet each passenger getting on and make jokes with them. What's more, if you ask some citizens for directions, they would happlily give you the detailed instructions and even chat with you for a while. Strangers sitting next to each other on the train may just start chatting over something they see. Same applies to people standing at the bus stop waiting for buses. Maybe these are only a few cases that we happened to observe and experience, but it really makes your day when you are the beneficiary.

 

Another good thing about going out for conferences is to make new friends and get to know more about other cultures and customs. Each trip is a different experience with different people, different environment and different feeling, which makes it so unique and memorable.

刚回来一堆事儿，今天才抽空把去蔬菜博览会的照片传了几张上来，图个新鲜。这个会从我来新加坡第二年就开始办了，到现在已经第八届了，这次还是头一回去看，感觉把蔬菜做成观赏性的展览品，还是挺新鲜的。

 

 

从去年11月份忙到现在的工作终于可以暂时告于段落，让我回家好好休息一会儿了。细数期间做过的事情，就是投了三篇rank 1, 一篇rank 2 的conference paper 和一篇Journal paper (目前为止中了一篇，另外四篇pending), 然后过了thesis proposal。由于春节期间还去美国开了个会，所以搞得时间比较紧张，最后一段时间不得不早出晚归，钢琴也没时间练了，倒是羽毛球还是照旧每周打，因为有人正处于极度迷恋中。。。现在想到终于可以放假一个月回家好好爽爽，不由得手舞足蹈，差点就躺在床上打滚了。

 

另外，由于搬家的原因，钢琴要处理掉，不知道有没有人感兴趣。。。
